This is your life.
I listened to a speech from the most inspirational guy today. An advocate for the “youth voice” and current Harvard student, Gorick Ng talked about some lessons he learned over the years. One particular anecdote struck me hardest:
A group of first-year Harvard students were asked if they set goals for themselves. 10% of them said they had some goals, and only 3% actually wrote these goals down.
10 years later, that 10% of the group were making twice as much as those who had no goals. The 3%? They were making 10 times more than the rest of them.
The most successful people set goals for themselves and work hard to achieve them. Money isn’t everything, but this lesson applies to other aspects of life as well. If you don’t know where you want to be 2, 5, or 10 years from now, how will you make the most out of your life?
Some people manage to be successful by sheer dumb luck, but I’m done with going through life blindfolded. I’m realizing that the smart way to live life is by treating it like a business plan. What’s my mission, my objectives, and my action plan?
